Following prediction by Nigerian Metrological Agency, NiMet that there will be early rainfall this year, farmers in Kwara State say that they have cleared their land to commence farming.
Kwara State chairman, All Farmers Association of Nigeria, AFAN, Comrade Umar Aboki made their position known in an exclusive interview with Correspondent Lanre Omotoso in Ilorin.
Comrade Aboki who expressed joy about NiMet prediction, said farmers in the state were already done with land clearing, stressed that they are awaiting the rain to begin planting.
The Kwara State AFAN chairman however called on government at various levels to subsidize fertilizer, chemicals and give soft loans to farmers to produce food at cheaper rates.
He also called on government to put measures in place to curb banditry and kidnapping, for farmers to ply their trade without fear.
On farmers-herders clashes, Comrade Aboki called on herders not to graze on people’s farm, enjoined farmers to embrace cluster farming and report erring herders to appropriate authorities.
