Chairman, Ilorin Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Barrister Abdulganiyu Bello has praised the efforts of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in battling corruption, economic and financial crimes in the country.

This is contained in a statement by
Head, Media & Publicity, Ilorin Zonal Office of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren.

Bello gave the praise when he led other executive members of the association in the state on a courtesy visit to the Ilorin Zonal Office of the EFCC.

“I’m proud to identify with the works of the EFCC. I love your job and the way you are doing it. It’s been so wonderful. We’ve been monitoring your operations in the state. I can tell you without mincing words that if not for the intervention of the EFCC, our economy would have collapsed. We have seen a lot of changes since you came on board, especially in Kwara state”, he said.

While noting that fighting corruption is a herculean task, Bello acknowledged the professionalism of EFCC officers and their attention to the rule of law in the discharge of their duties.

“We know how difficult the task of fighting corruption is and the sensitivity of your job. The Nigerian Bar Association, however, wishes to assure you of our support and cooperation towards ensuring that you deliver on your mandate in order to have a guaranteed future for the incoming generation,” Bello said.

In his response, Head, Ilorin Zonal Office of the EFCC, Kazeem Oseni, assured the lawyers that the commission would continue to discharge its duties without fear or favour in accordance with the constitution.

“As you know, we are serving the public and God. We shall always be guided by the rule of law and the fear of God. We owe Nigeria and Nigerians a duty to stamp out corruption which has been the bane of our development. And, we are determined to tackle the monster called corruption in all its ramifications. We shall not despair or be deterred. We shall leave no stone unturned in our efforts in redeeming the image of the country and putting the Nigerian economy in the path of sustainable growth”, Oseni said.

He urged the Bar to take ownership of the anti-corruption crusade and avoid being used as tools by corrupt elements in frustrating the fight, noting that lawyers are strategic to winning the fight against corruption.
